Our Story

Our family’s desire has always been to own and operate a family farm. In 2001, our dream came true when we made our purchase – COWEN FARM located at 29 SKYLER LANE, BRADFORD, TN. For the next nine years, we focused our efforts on a variety of farming types such as cows, hay, horses, chickens…

Then, in 2010, we decided to take the leap into BLACKBERRIES. Why? Blackberries are a very healthy fruit… plus picking blackberries brings back fun childhood memories… and best of all, blackberries taste GREAT! Who doesn’t like a blackberry cobbler, blackberry jelly, blackberry ice cream… You name it, we love ’em all!

Then in 2017, our cow barn burned down – completely destroyed. We started building back in 2018 and ended up, unintentionally, with a beautiful event barn.

After continued upgrades, we opened the venue up for rentals in 2022! Weddings, parties, reunions, business meetings, retail markets… you name it, our barn can accommodate.

You are invited to come visit Cowen Farm. If you are interested in blackberries, bring the entire family to enjoy the scenery and farm atmosphere. We have blackberries you can purchase already picked or you can pick your own. If you are interested in renting our Event Barn, we’d love to give your a tour.

Our Lead Farmer

Charles Cowen grew up in Curtis Community between Opp and Elba, Alabama. His love for farm life started as a child, where he raised pigs and chickens, worked for other farmers and did odd construction jobs along with his brothers and sisters (10 children). He is full of great stories from his childhood, loves children and shares his biscuit making talents with our church on Sunday mornings.

Our Farmer’s Wife

Amy Dedmon Cowen grew up in Allen Community in Brownsville, Tennessee, on the William Dedmon family farm. Although Amy left the farm in adulthood to make a career in distribution, transportation and customer service, her love for the farm setting never waivered. Now in retirement, she runs the Event Barn and helps Charles with the blackberries.

Our Family

We have 5 children and 6 grandchildren. Although all of our children but one were grown and on their own when we bought the farm, they all enjoy visiting and helping as time allows. Blackberry time is always special with all grandchildren taking their turn at the picking, driving the mule and anything else they can do on 100+ acres of fun.
